class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stage 2-Planting the Seeds<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-901f1e139b3ad3fbf96368ff1381fc00\">It&#8217;s important to remember that your seedlings will need to be potted up to larger pots before being planted out in the garden. Once they are potted up, they will still need time under the grow light. I like to do this first, so I don&#8217;t forget.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-large-font-size\">Dump <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/4hCLHN3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">seed starting mix <\/a><\/strong>into a big plastic dishpan. I add a few tablespoons of<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/4heKhIJ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> worm castings <\/a><\/strong>(optional). I then moisten the seed mix by pouring in about a cup or so of water. I stir until consistently damp, but not waterlogged.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-large-font-size\">Fill the seed trays with the seed starting mix.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-large-font-size\">Follow the seed pack for the recommended sowing depth and spacing for each  type of seed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-large-font-size\">Place the seeds on the surface of the mix and gently press down if needed. I often use a chopstick to help me with this process.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-large-font-size\">Cover and mist the seeds with a thin layer of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/4hCLHN3\" rel=\"nofollow\">seed starting mix <\/a><\/strong>according to seed packet instructions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-large-font-size\">Mist the surface with water to settle the mix and provide initial moisture. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-large-font-size\">Cover trays with a plastic humidity dome or plastic wrap to create a mini greenhouse effect. This helps retain moisture and warmth.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-large-font-size\">Place on <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/4ggcr4N\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">heat mat.<\/a><\/strong> This encourages germination. I leave mine on about 12-16 hours and turn off when I go to bed. You can also use a <strong>timer <\/strong>for this.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-large-font-size\">Monitor the moisture levels regularly. The mix should remain consistently moist, but not soggy. Once&nbsp;&nbsp;seedlings have sprouted it\u2019s time to remove them from the heat mat and transition them underneath&nbsp;&nbsp;grow lights. During this time, it\u2019s important that the seedlings get plenty of light. This generally means the seedlings be about 3-6 inches from the grow lights around 12 hours a day. They also will need water during this time. I prefer bottom watering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;The seedlings will develop their first and consecutive true leaves at this stage and their seed leaves (called cotyledons) will turn yellow.
