Timing is Key<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\">Broccoli is usually ready to harvest 50-70 days after planting. The best time to pick broccoli is when the head is fully developed but before the florets start to open or turn yellow. This typically happens when the head is tight and compact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Size Matters<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\">Look for a broccoli head that is 4-7 inches in diameter. However, the size can vary depending on the variety, so also pay attention to the tightness and color of the head.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3. Cutting Method Matters<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\">A sharp non-serrated knife works best because it will make a more precise cut which is important along with cutting at an angle about 5 inches below the head. The reason you should cut at an angle about 5-6 inches below the head is to prevent to water pooling on the cut which could cause the plant to rot. The angled cut allows any water to easily drip off. Lastly, be sure to leave some of stem and leaves attached to encourage side shoots to develop.
