{WINTER SALAD RECIPE 1️⃣For the Salad: -2

{WINTER SALAD

RECIPE

1️⃣For the Salad:
-2 cups arugula or Kale (or mixed greens if preferred)
-1 bunch radishes, thinly sliced
-1 medium orange, peeled and sliced into rounds (or use grapefruit for a slightly tart twist)
- 1/2 cup toasted walnuts (or pecans)
-1/4 cup crumbled feta cheese or goat cheese (optional for extra creaminess

2️⃣For the Dressing:
- 2tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
-1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar or white wine vinegar
-1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup
-1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
-Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

3️⃣Prepare the Radishes and Orange:
-Wash and thinly slice the radishes (a mandoline slicer works well for even slices).
-Peel the orange and slice it into thin rounds, removing any seeds. You can also cut them into half-moon shapes if you prefer.

4️⃣Toast the Walnuts:
• In a dry skillet over medium heat, toast the walnuts for 3-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until fragrant and slightly browned. Remove from heat and set aside to cool.

5️⃣Serve:
• Serve immediately as a refreshing and light addition to your Thanksgiving meal.

-Serves 4-6

Anyone else?

🧐I just learned….

The fluffy stuff on Swamp Milkweed seeds is called silk. This silk is a natural fibrous material attached to the seeds, which helps them disperse in the wind.

The fluffy silk acts like a parachute, allowing the seeds to be carried over long distances, aiding in the plant’s reproduction by spreading its seeds to new areas. This is similar to the fluff found on dandelion seeds or cottonwood trees.

The silk on swamp milkweed seeds is very lightweight, which makes it perfect for wind dispersal, ensuring the seeds have a better chance of establishing new plants in different locations.

Great day for up! Here’s a look at one of our four DIY cattle panel trellises.

🌿We picked up the cattle fencing from Tractor Supply, secured it with T-posts and heavy duty zip ties, then painted the posts gray to match.

We’ve grown the following on these trellises:

After Hurricane Helene knocked over & practically destroyed my already struggling Dahlias, I thought they were done for the season, especially since our first frost date was supposed to be October 26.

But to my surprise, I found several still blooming under the fallen leaves in November!

🧐I just learned….

The fluffy stuff on Swamp Milkweed seeds is called silk. This silk is a natural fibrous material attached to the seeds, which helps them disperse in the wind.

The fluffy silk acts like a parachute, allowing the seeds to be carried over long distances, aiding in the plant’s reproduction by spreading its seeds to new areas. This is similar to the fluff found on dandelion seeds or cottonwood trees.

The silk on swamp milkweed seeds is very lightweight, which makes it perfect for wind dispersal, ensuring the seeds have a better chance of establishing new plants in different locations.

I’ve been trying this composter out from @vego_composter over the past month & can honestly say I’m loving it!

It would be particularly helpful for people in urban areas or apartments who don’t have space for a traditional compost bin to reduce food waste.

Great day for up! Here’s a look at one of our four DIY cattle panel trellises.

🌿We picked up the cattle fencing from Tractor Supply, secured it with T-posts and heavy duty zip ties, then painted the posts gray to match.

We’ve grown the following on these trellises:
🫘Green Beans
🍅Tomatoes (indeterminate)
🥒Cucumbers
🫛Snap Peas
🧽Loofah Gourds
🌸Sweet Peas
