✨Eshet Chayil(Woman of Valor) Holding this speci ✨Eshet Chayil(Woman of Valor) Holding this special mug my husband made for me—and all the moms of our congregation—as a reminder of who we are in the eyes of God. At the top, it reads “Eshet Chayil” — A Woman of Valor.

This beautiful Hebrew phrase comes from Proverbs 31, where a woman is praised not just for her outward beauty, but for her strength, wisdom, kindness, and reverence for the Lord. It’s a term of high honor in Jewish and biblical tradition, celebrating a woman who builds her home, serves others with joy, and walks faithfully with God.

The three flowers on the mug each carry meaning from the Land of Israel—a land God calls His own.

These little guys build a communal silk tent each spring—usually in cherry, apple, and other hardwood trees. They crawl out during the day to munch on leaves, then return to their tent to rest and stay safe from predators and rain.

While they look dramatic, they usually don’t harm healthy trees. Their silk tents, made from caterpillar spit (yep, really!), are one of spring’s first signs of insect life. Keep an eye out—nature’s pretty wild!

They eventually turned into a brown moth. Nothing too dramatic eh?

Potting up my tomato seedlings into 4” trays—t Potting up my tomato seedlings into 4” trays—this will be their home until they head out to the garden! I’m dividing them gently since I multi-sowed some, giving each one room to grow strong.

When potting up, I like to switch from seed starting mix to potting soil. Seed starter is great for germination—light, fluffy, and lower in nutrients—but once seedlings develop true leaves, they need more support.

Potting soil is richer and more structured, giving roots something to hold onto and providing the nutrients they need to thrive.

I’m bring a little bit of Maine to my Virginia garden & trying @coastofmaineorganic Bar Harbor blend for the first time (kindly gifted to me) and it’s known for being well-balanced—moisture-retaining yet well-draining, which helps avoid root rot or hydrophobic soil.

I’ve heard great things from other organic gardeners & excited to see how it supports healthy growth in my garden.

If you’re just getting started, this is one of those gardening tips for beginners that makes all the difference when you’re hoping to grow your own food!

March Garden Book Club: Tea Gardening for Beginners

Blog Post photo of Tea Gardening for beginners
A delightful read and great resource

Tea Gardening for Beginners by Julia Dimakos

Have you ever wanted to grow your own tea leaves or create herbal infusions at home? If so, this month’s 2025 Garden Book Club selection, Tea Gardening for Beginners, is the perfect guide to help you get started. Not only does this book teach you how to grow tea, but it also walks you through blending your own unique creations.

In this book, you’ll learn how to plan your garden and cultivate 25 flavorful plants, such as lavender and lemongrass. Additionally, you’ll discover how to create custom tea blends for energy, relaxation, and more. With step-by-step instructions and detailed plant profiles, brewing fresh tea from your own garden becomes simple and enjoyable.

Fun fact: The author, Julia Dimakos, and I were once in the same gardening group on Instagram! Interestingly, Julia lives in Canada and has a massive and beautiful kitchen garden space. Because of her experience growing her own garden and teaching others in her community she is an excellent resource for kitchen gardeners. If you’d like to learn more about her, you can visit her website here.

Want a sneak peek of the book? Watch a discussion in the YouTube video below!
